This years Thanksgiving tournament looks promising and looks like a big team building activity. We will begin moving mats around 1pm today. We will need all hands on deck. Details to follow for teams, pools and mats. If you volunteered to work at concessions or ticket sales, and have not received an email, please call Deanna Shuman at 912-541-3053. See you all on the mats!
Our first tournament is at River Ridge High School, this Saturday. We will be meeting at the Etowah high school wrestling gym at 6am. Please be on time.
If you need a ride from your house to the school, please respond to this email or discuss with Coach Lutz ahead of time. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REPORT LACK OF PARTICIPATION. We will do everything we can to get you there. The overall success of the team depends on participation! We will check weight and plan to depart from the high school around 630am. It is the responsibility of the wrestler to know their weight and maintain it. Weigh ins begin at 7am. Please ensure that you are adequately hydrated for the tournament. The night before the tournament, wrestlers should ensure they eat a meal full of complex carbohydrates along with a bit of protein to ensure competitors will have energy deep into the tournament. Good examples of these foods are grapes, apples, oranges, and trail mix. Wrestlers should ensure they are fully hydrated after weigh ins with water or a sports drink. Eating carbohydrate rich snacks following weigh ins such as bagels, graham crackers, pretzels, bananas, yogurt and granola will be helpful. Following a match, wrestlers should have a meal to recover which incorporates carbohydrates, proteins and fluids. There will be a concessions stand at the tournament, so if parents are not planning to attend, please plan to bring money for concessions. There are several parents who have offered to car pool. If you are attending the event and have not been contacted and you are available to carpool, please respond to this email to let me know you are available and how many seats you have. If you are making plans to attend, the tournament will begin at 9am. Directions to the school are here. There will be a total of ten teams participating. We are currently in pool A and willl be wrestling Mt. Pisgah, the first round on Mat 4. Round 2 we have a Bye. Round 3 we will wrestle OLA on mat 4. Round 4 we will be on mat 3 wrestling Gordon Lee. Finally, we will wrestle South Cobb on Mat 4. It is advised for best spectator seats to sit nearest these mats. All wrestlers are expected to wear their Etowah gear and the yellow shirts. All parents are encouraged to come and support the team. If you are not able to attend, please look for highlights on the website blog following the tournament. Every attempt will be made to update the roster following the tournament. Registration is now open and player packs are now available for purchase. Please click on the button below to navigate to purchase your player pack today. Last year, we had a few team members who wanted new singlets and to make other apparel available for purchase. If this is something you might be interested in, please comment below to let us know. We've added a sporty new 1/4 zip jacket now as well.
Due to the school closing, the previously scheduled parent meeting date has been changed from September 12 to September 14th at 7pm. We will go over the annual budget, player packs and information regarding the upcoming season. This meeting will be the perfect opportunity for you to address any questions or concerns you may have.
The team took 11 wrestlers to Woodland camp over the summer. The camp highlighted escaping from bottom, front headlock, and many other techniques valuable to team. We’ll be sure to see their individual improvement in the fall!
Etowah brought 4 wrestlers to the camp at Chattanooga and stayed several days to enhance their skills even further. Alex Pham made it to All-star team where he competed with some of the best wrestlers at the camp in a dual against other wrestlers. The team learned lots of character building during this camp as well. Skyler Shuman and Blake Smith competed in Freestyle and Greco over the summer. Skyler placed 2nd in Southeast Regions and went on to compete at Tulsa National Duals and Fargo Individual Duals. These guys all did an outstanding team in showing their dedication to the sport over the summer and throughout the school year! What a way to represent Etowah Wrestling! ![]() This year team gear will take on a new appearance. In accordance to GHSA rules and changes, wrestlers must wear either singlets or approved t-shirts and shorts. Some area schools are allowing the youth to get the alternative apparel option with the incentive of “earning” their singlet when they participate at the varsity level. For this reason, the singlets will be the gear of choice for our athletes. Some athletes have expressed an interest in purchasing new singlets and ¼ zip jackets. This will be left up to the individual and will ONLY be ordered if we generate a large enough interest in the singlets and ¼ zip jackets. These items will not be a part of the spirit wear this year. The spirit wear will be priced at $75 per player. The athlete will be responsible for this gear and it must be ordered by October 15 to get it in time for the season. Player packs will include the following listed items: Pullover hoodies, Jogging pants Drifit Shorts, T Shirts We are a team and the goal is to look like a team. This attire must be approved by GHSA and we would like to have the apparel in time for the first tournament, in November. An order form will be made available at the parent meeting. Order forms will also be sent out in a separate email. Money for apparel is due at the time of the order. As some of you may know, the 20172018 wrestling season is quickly approaching. As part of the new board member’s initiative to get things ready, we would like to get you and your athlete involved. Involved in fundraisers to help pay for this upcoming season, involved in becoming athletically ready for the season, and involved in general so you can voice your concerns and make this season a success.
One way to get involved is to connect with push notifications. Please click on the link below to get push notifications. We will continue to send out newsletters for all general information and correspondence as well. |
